A lovely Louis Vuitton hat trunk in stencilled monogrammed canvas with lozine and brass trim, France, circa 1900. This trunk is a must have item for any elite traveller harking back to times of passenger ships and 1st class travel of bygone eras. The brass fittings were “top of the range” at Louis Vuitton at the time and today makes for a great conversation piece, a great size for a coffee table or side table suitable for any interior, both modern or traditional.

One of the most popular and sought after of Louis Vuitton trunks is the gentleman’s wardrobe finished in cowhide leather. Dating to the early part of the 20th century, these coverings were custom orders with Louis Vuitton, made from a single sheet of the finest leather available. With hangers to both sides and brass hardware, it oozes elegance and quality whether displayed open or closed, a wonderful piece of interior design and conversation piece for any room, both modern or traditional. This particular trunk shows exquisite colour, suppleness and patination to the leather exterior to this day, despite it being over a century old. Another lovely quirk of this trunk is the wood slats to one of the sides which allows the option of laying the trunk horizontal if need be.

A very rare Louis Vuitton “Ideal” trunk (from French “Malle Idéale”), circa 1900's, features orange “Vuittonite“ canvas, all brass hardware, and leather trims. This model was initially introduced as the ‘Perfect Trunk’. The double-topped wardrobe trunk opens like a giant toolbox. The fine details of the brass lock and draw-bolts, leather binding, and “elephant ear“ leather handles give this luxurious trunk a timeless feel. The trunk also contains two discrete interior compartments.

This example is a Louis Vuitton trunk that dates to around 1910. It is covered in the world famous LV monogrammed canvas, with its leather borders and brass fittings this trunk would have been the top of the line even at the time of purchase over 100 years ago. A fantastic conversation piece, a great size for a coffee table or just as a standalone item suitable for any interior, both modern or traditional.
