Antique early 20th-century Indian (Lahore / Poona) solid silver bowl on stand, designed in a traditional shape with a large domed foot, resting on a large ebonised presentation stand. The bowl features intricate and ornate embossing, with a top band with a thick band of floral foliage. Below, the body chased with various hunting scenes, including hunters on elephants and horseback, fighting lions, wild boar and tigers, below bordered decorated with acanthus leaf motifs. The circular base is adorned with complimentary animal designs. The bowls distinctive design is typical to the region of Poona, located 120 miles south-east of Bombay, Occupied by the British since the 1802, it was the perfect military base, being 2000ft above sea level, making the unbearably hot Indian summers more bearable.
