Antique early 20th Century English solid silver four tier cigar box. A refined silver four-tier box designed for smoking essentials—matches in the top tier, followed by compartments for cigarettes and cigars, with a concealed ashtray in the base. Made by Wright & Davies (William Frederick Wright), the piece bears an inscription beneath the second lid, noting its presentation to Alfred Fripp, “Friend of the Navy,” in commemoration of the Great War, 1914–1918.

Sir Alfred Fripp served as surgeon to King Edward VII and King George V, and during the Boer War, he was instrumental in advancing field hospital systems. In 1914, he held the position of consulting surgeon to the Navy at the Royal Naval Dockyard in Rosyth and was appointed Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (KCVO). Hallmarked English solid silver (925 standard), London, year 1912 (r), Maker's mark W.W F.D (Wright & Davies).
