RECENT ACQUISITIONS - 21st March
Antique early 20th Century Japanese Meiji period solid silver humidor box. The surface is adorned with an intricate high relief water dragon, complete with applied flowing whiskers, set against a hand hammered background. Hand crafted in double skinned cilver and a cedar wood-lined interior. The box features two compartments inside with a removable parting allowing it to be extended to a large singular compartment. A mounted handle is attached to the front.
The base is Hallmarked Japanese silver (950+ high grade silver), used primary in during the Meiji period (1868-1912). The workmanship is similar to boxes retailed by Arthur & Bond, one of the most important Japanese firms active in Yokohama.
