DESCRIPTION

Antique 19th Century Austrian rock crystal and enamelled on solid silver-gilt drageoir on stand, the oval bulbous bowl, cover and dish carved in relief with leaves and scrolls within narrow silver-gilt borders decorated in polychrome champlevé enamels, the ring finial and handles formed as winged caryatids also picked out in enamel.

The piece is Hallmarked Austrian silver (900+ standard), town mark "A" for Vienna, standard mark (used post-1872), Maker's mark "HR" (Hermann Ratzersdorfer, one of the greatest Austrian enamelist).

CONDITION

Minor enamel losses and small chips to the rock crystal on the inside of the lid.
