DESCRIPTION
Antique 18th Century rare and important set of twelve Georgian Solid Silver dinner plates, each of shaped-circular form with slanted gadrooned border, the reverse scratched with weight and numbered (not consecutively, the 12 plates were part of a larger set).
Each border is engraved with two family crests, with lions and the Latin mottoes "Virtus Mille Scuta" and "Tria Juncta In Uno", both related to the Howard-Vyse family, possibly to the wedding between Howard Henry Howard-Vyse Esq. and Mable Diana Howard-Vyse.
Each piece is fully Hallmarked English silver (925 standard), London, year 1782 (g), Maker's mark DSRS (Daniel Smith & Robert Sharp - this mark is a cut-down version of RC/DS/RS, Richard Carter has been removed, mark used from 1780).
