DESCRIPTION
Antique 19th Century rare Victorian Egyptian Revival Solid Silver centrepiece tazza / comport, the vase shaped column decorated with anthemions and leaf scrolls below fluted bands, surrounded by three seated and winged sphinxes, on a shaped tripartite base on three lion's leg supports, the top is fitted with a cut-glass bowl.
The base is Hallmarked English silver (925 Standard), Birmingham, year 1867 (s), Maker's mark E&CO (Elkington & Co, very important silversmith). The design of the centrepiece is most probably by the artist Auguste-Adolphe Willms.
