Founded in Sheffield in 1775, Mappin & Webb became one of Britain’s most respected makers of silverware during the 19th Century. Originally established by Jonathan Mappin, the company expanded rapidly throughout the Victorian period, gaining a reputation for producing finely made silver, cutlery, dressing table items, and luxury household wares.
By the mid to late 1800s, Mappin & Webb had become closely associated with quality craftsmanship and refined design, supplying both private clients and royal households. Their workshops combined traditional hand-finishing techniques with the latest manufacturing methods of the period, allowing them to produce pieces that were both practical and decorative.
Antique silver mounted glassware from Mappin & Webb remains particularly sought after today, admired for its fine materials, restrained design, and high standard of workmanship.
