Β£3,795.00

Antique 19th Century Welsh solid silver mounted bovine horn drinking vessel. The upper section is fitted with a silver mounted hinged domed cover, chased foliate ornament and surmounted by a decorative finial. Further silver mounts accent the curve and terminal of the horn. Engraved around the rim is the presentation inscription: β€œPresented by the Cymmrodorion in Gwynedd to Richard Philips Jones MD for his Zeal and Exertions in Promoting The Royal Eisteddfod held at Denbigh 1828” The inscription gives the piece strong historical context, linking it directly with the promotion of the Welsh Eisteddfod tradition during the early nineteenth century and with the Cymmrodorion of Gwynedd. Comes neatly presented in its original Hallmarked British silver (925 Standard), Year 1828 (n), Maker's mark RE over EB (Rebecca Emes & Edward Barnard I).
