VINTAGE 20thC ENGLISH SILVER PLATED & CUT CRYSTAL TANTALUS c.1930
An elegant English silver plated tantalus dating from circa 1930, fitted with three matching cut crystal spirit decanters. The substantial silver plated frame is of architectural form, with a stepped rectangular base and carrying handle above. The three square section crystal decanters are finely cut with geometric decoration and retain their large faceted crystal stoppers. A locking mechanism to the side secures the decanters within the frame, retaining its original key. Traditionally, a tantalus was designed to allow the contents to remain visible while preventing access to the decanters without unlocking the mechanism. A particularly handsome example of early 20th Century English barware, combining decorative appeal with practical function.
