ANTIQUE 20thC INDIAN BURMESE SOLID SILVER MASSIVE SCULPTURAL BETEL BOX c.1920
20th Century Burmese Colonial silver betel box and stand, higly-decorative, each part is chased in very high-relief with various scenes from Burmese floklore, surrounded by scrolling foliage, resting on a circular base chased with scrolling foliage and birds, the cover is surmounted by an impressive cast figural finial modelled as a hunter in traditional Burmese dress and holding a bow.
Acid tested shows a 900+ silver standard, it probably dates to the 1920's.

Antique 20th Century Burmese Colonial solid silver betel box and stand, massive size (48 cm tall) and heavy (4.5 kg), higly-decorative, each part is chased in very high-relief with various scenes from Burmese floklore, surrounded by scrolling foliage, resting on a circular base chased with scrolling foliage and birds, the cover is surmounted by an impressive cast figural finial modelled as a hunter in traditional Burmese dress and holding a bow.
The piece is exceptionally large and heavy, probably the largest and most impressive Burmese betel box ever made. The acid tested shows a 900+ silver standard. As always the case for Burmese silver the piece appears to be unmarked, it probably dates to the 1920's.
