ANTIQUE 20thC CHINESE EXPORT SOLID SILVER VASE, HONE WO, HONG KONG c.1900
Antique early 20th Century rare Chinese export solid silver vase, showcasing impressive craftsmanship and exceptional detail. The tapering body is adorned with repoussé work, depicting a classic oriental scenes, depicting aristocracy, while another figure plays the flute, on reverse a fisherman greeting a villager. In the background, a pagoda and foliage. Mounted ring handles, emerging from Foo Dogs masks. Hallmarked with Chinese marks on the base, HW for Hone Wo, Tai Ping Shan [Victoria Peak], Hong Kong circa 1845-1925.
Hone Wo was a retail silversmith that produced a wide spectrum of silver wares, ranging from small boxes and napkin rings, to tea sets and large ornate vases. (A. Von Ferscht, Chinese Export Silver 1785-1940, 4th edition 2015, page 322).
