ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Camillo Prampolini (1859–1930) was an influential Italian socialist politician, journalist and reformer, and one of the leading figures of the Italian socialist movement during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born in Reggio Emilia, he dedicated much of his life to improving the conditions of agricultural workers and the working classes, advocating social reform, education, cooperation and workers' rights. He was elected to the Italian Parliament in 1890 and became particularly associated with the development of socialist cooperatives and mutual aid organisations in Emilia-Romagna. A committed advocate of peaceful, democratic socialism, Prampolini opposed political violence and later resisted the rise of Fascism. He remained an important figure in the political and social history of Reggio Emilia, where his legacy continues to be commemorated. The bust is an evocative example of Italian portrait sculpture from the early 20th century, combining accomplished naturalistic modelling with an intriguing possible association with one of the most significant political figures of the region.
Acquired in Reggio Emilia, the birthplace of Camillo Prampolini.
