Vintage 20th Century Italian decorative trio of vintage Italian bamboo baskets dating to the 1970s, comprising one large basket and two smaller examples, all unified by warm natural reed construction and substantial brass detailing. Each piece is finely woven from closely laid horizontal bamboo or pencil reed, secured with slender vertical bindings and finished with a broad brass rim. The largest basket has a generous, rounded form, while the two smaller baskets introduce a pleasing variation in scale. One of the smaller examples is further distinguished by a tall arched brass handle, attached with shaped metal mounts and screw fixings. The contrast between the honey toned bamboo and the richly patinated brass gives the group a highly decorative character. Their combination of natural materials and polished metal strongly recalls the glamorous organic modernism associated with Gabriella Crespi and Italian interiors of the 1970s. Together they work beautifully as decorative storage, tabletop or floor baskets, cachepots with suitable liners, or simply as sculptural accessories.
