Antique 19th Century Japanese cast iron Seiryudoa carved tetsubin kettle. The cylindrical iron body is cast to resemble a rugged rocky surface and decorated in high relief with a Rakan seated beneath pine branches on one side, with a four-line poem on the reverse.

The handle is inlaid in flat relief with gold and silver clouds. The cover has a mottled red and brown patina and is surmounted by a lotus-form finial. The underside of the cover bears a chiselled signature reading Seiryudo tsukuru.
