Antique 19th Century Japanese gilt bronze figure of a kawaraban by the Miyao Eisuke Company of Yokohama. The figure stands wearing a long jacket over a kimono decorated with cherry blossoms, beating an upturned wooden bucket carried over his right shoulder as he calls out to customers.

The figure is affixed to a typical Miyao-style wooden stand lacquered in gold takamaki-e with a stylised ho-o (phoenix) amid karakusa (β€˜Chinese grasses’). The reverse is signed Miyao within a gold rectangular reserve.
