VINTAGE 20thC BLACK EPIDOTE STONE BOX c.1960
Vintage 20th Century Black Epidote stone box. The box is mounted with a brass hinge and lined in black marble, complementing the dark, mottled character of the stone.
Epidote is a silicate mineral typically found in metamorphic rocks, and in its darker varieties it presents a deep green to near-black ground with subtle crystalline texture. When cut and polished, black epidote reveals a dense, almost velvety surface with natural variation throughout. Harder than marble and capable of taking a good polish, it was used during the 20th century for decorative objects and small desk pieces, valued for its strength and understated appearance.
