VINTAGE 20thC SPANISH SOLID SILVER & RUBY GLASS 'OWL' CLARET JUG c.1930

Vintage 20th Century Spanish ​solid silver mounted ruby glass claret jug, beautifully modelled in the form of an owl. The body is fashioned from rich ruby coloured glass, finely cut and engraved to simulate the layered feathers of the owls plumage. The vibrant glass is complemented by an exquisitely modelled solid silver head, featuring intricately chased feathers, prominent ear tufts, a finely shaped beak and expressive inset glass eyes. The hinged silver head lifts to reveal a cleverly concealed pouring spout incorporated within the owl's beak. The owl stands upon detailed solid silver feet, complete with individually modelled talons. A particularly striking and highly collectible example of novelty silver and glass, demonstrating remarkable attention to detail and an imaginative approach to design. A wonderful statement piece, appealing equally to collectors of fine silver, decorative glass, naturalistic animal subjects and unusual claret jugs.
