Antique early Early 20th-century Swiss Black Forest carved wooden stick stand, purchased in Switzerland in 1910 by a honeymooning couple. Unusually, they documented their journey with photographs and preserved them in a dedicated album, which accompanies the piece.
Carved in the form of a bear standing upright on its hind legs, the figure is rendered with realistic detail, including an open mouth with prominent teeth. Its forepaws grasp a large stick, allowing umbrellas or walking sticks to rest securely. A metal drip tray is fitted into the base to collect runoff and stabilise the sticks. A rare and characterful example with documented provenance and personal history.
