DESCRIPTION

Antique late-19th Century German (Hanau) solid silver large lidded tankard, in the style of the early 16th century example, beautifully chased and embossed with a very detailed and crowded hunting scenes, the base decorated with scrolling foliage and fruits in relief, large scroll handle terminating with a leaf-shaped thumb-piece, hinged domed cover in the same style applied with cast figure of a wild boar. Hallmarked with German marks 800 (800+ standard), Hanau, c.1890.
