DESCRIPTION
Antique 20th Century Imperial Russian Faberge 14k solid gold cigarette case, very elegant square form with rounded corners, with reeded covers, the hinged cover applied with a cabochon sapphire thumbpiece. Both sides Hallmarked Russian gold 56 (585 standard), St-Petersburg, year 1908-1917, Maker's mark AB, Andrei Bragin, renowned Faberge workmaster, who exclusively produced holloware and flatware. Valentin Skurlov is credited with recognizing this mistaken identity problem in Lowes & McCanless, 185). This latter cigarette case, decorated with an imperial double-headed eagle, is in an original étui of A. Tillander and was commissioned by the Cabinet of His Imperial Majesty as an Imperial gift.
