ANTIQUE 19thC INDIAN SOLID SILVER EXCEPTIONAL CHARGER TRAY c.1880
19th Century Indian / Burmese Silver charger tray, impressively large, heavy and magnificent, profusely decorated in high relief with a series of hunting scenes, with hunters riding elephants and horses amid scrolling foliage and vegetation, attacked by tigers and lions, animals fighting, a man fighting with a gorilla, the centre is embossed with four panels featuring deities and loving scenes.
The rim is Hallmarked French import silver (swan, 900+ standard).

DESCRIPTION
Antique 19th Century Indian / Burmese Solid Silver charger tray, impressively large, heavy and magnificent, profusely decorated in high relief with a series of hunting scenes, with hunters riding elephants and horses amid scrolling foliage and vegetation, attacked by tigers and lions, animals fighting, a man fighting with a gorilla, the centre is embossed with four panels featuring deities and loving scenes. The border is also embossed with animals in a scrolling foliage.
The stunning piece features an unusually heavy gauge, extremely detailed and exceptional quality, the best repousse' craftmanship, surely made for an important commission, probably a wedding.
The piece is one of the finest examples we have ever seen, most probably Indian (possibly Lucknow), the rim is Hallmarked French import silver (swan, 900+ standard).
