ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Vishnu Kishore was a skilled Indian silversmith active in the late 19th century, known for producing high-quality silverware, particularly tea sets, trays, ewer juge and decorative tableware. Based in Calcutta (now Kolkata), his work reflected a fusion of British colonial tastes and traditional Indian craftsmanship. His pieces were often adorned with intricate repoussΓ© designs, featuring scrolling foliage, animals, and figural motifs inspired by Indian mythology and Mughal artistry. His silverware was well-regarded among British officials and wealthy patrons in colonial India, many of whom commissioned elaborate sets for their homes. He marked his pieces with "VK," a hallmark that distinguished his work from other Indian silversmiths of the time. While fewer records exist about his life, his craftsmanship remains appreciated among collectors.
