ANTIQUE 19thC INDIAN SOLID SILVER CORIANDER PATTERN GOBLET, LUCKNOW c.1870

Antique 19th Century Indian (Lucknow) solid silver goblet, of a slightly tapered form and is richly worked throughout with dense foliate and floral engraved decoration, characteristic of the highly accomplished silverwork produced in Lucknow region of India during the nineteenth century. The upper border is finished with a continuous band of stylised leaf and scroll ornament, while the body incorporates an oval cartouche. raised on an unusually sculptural coiled serpent stem, the snake finely detailed with engraved scales and twisting around the central support before terminating in a modelled head at the base. The stem rises from a broad circular pedestal foot, similarly decorated with scrolling foliage and finished with a finely reeded outer edge. As often the case for Indian silver from this region often unmarked, but acid tested shows a 900+ silver standard, it dates to the 1870's.
