Antique pair of 19th Century Indian (Madras) solid silver mugs, crafted in a tapered conical form. Each is richly decorated with chased and repoussé deities framed by borders of floral foliage and fitted with a figural ‘C’-shaped handle. One mug bears the inscription on the rim: “TO HAROLD J. STERN FROM HIS UNCLE HENRY. 5661. As often the case for Indian silver the piece is not marked, but the Swami style, chased with Hindu deities, is typically from Madras region.

Acid tested shows a 900+ standard, they date to the 1890-1920.
