ANTIQUE 19thC INDIAN SOLID SILVER REPOUSSÉ BOWL c.1890

£995.00

Antique 19th Century Indian solid silver bowl, originating from Baroda, Central Gujarat, now known as Vadodara. The rounded bowl is beautifully designed and meticulously hand crafted with repoussé village scenes, depicting buildings perched on the bank of the Vishwamitri River. Silversmiths would spend countless hours creating these pieces, embellishing the entire surface in miniscule details, with fine chasing to add a layer of depth, enhancing the floral motifs, swirling foliate decoration and scrollwork against the stippled background. The scalloped pierced rim delicately frames the bowl, and it sits on a domed base. As often is the case with Indian silver the bowl is unmarked (acid tested 900+ standard).
