Vintage 20th Century Italian stone box crafted from Nero granite. The interior is lined with pale grey marble, creating a restrained contrast against the dark exterior.
Nero granite is a dense igneous stone composed primarily of quartz, feldspar and dark minerals, giving it its deep charcoal to near-black ground. Often lightly flecked with fine crystalline detail, it takes a high polish and has long been favoured for architectural and decorative use due to its strength and resistance to wear. In smaller objects such as boxes, the stone offers a clean, architectural presence, with each cut revealing subtle natural variation within the polished surface.
