20thC ITALIAN "ELDA" BLACK LEATHER CHAIR BY JOE COLOMBO c.1970
One of the most iconic design pieces of the 20th century, the Elda chair was designed by Joe Colombo in 1963. Utilising innovative manufacturing techniques, Colombo created this fibreglass and leather masterpiece. The white fibreglass shell is elegantly wrapped in black leather, featuring soft cushions attached to the backrest and seat. Exceptionally comfortable, the chair's swivel base adds a practical touch to its stunning design.
This particular Elda chair is completely original and has not been reupholstered, unlike many others on the market. Celebrated as a quintessential example of Space Age design, a popular movement in the 1960s and 70s that embraced futuristic aesthetics and innovative materials, the Elda chair reflects the optimism and creativity of its era. The Elda chair is proudly included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Louvre in Paris.

CONDITION
Some of the fasteners of the cushions to the shell of the chair have perished but do not detract from the use of the chair. All upholstery original to the chair, only minor wear. The swivel mechanism a little “sticky“. Please refer to photographs.
