ANTIQUE 20thC LOUIS VUITTON STEAMER TRUNK IN MONOGRAM CANVAS, FRANCE c.1920
An elegant Louis Vuitton monogram canvas steamer trunk dating to the 1920s, exemplifying the exceptional craftsmanship and timeless design that established the Parisian house as the foremost maker of luxury travel goods. Retaining its iconic monogram canvas covering, the trunk is further enhanced by natural leather trim, brass-bound corners, and brass lock fittings, all of which have developed a rich and attractive patina over time.
The front is fitted with the original brass lock plate and reinforced horizontal wooden battens, while the side bears the initials 'M.C.', adding a personalised element and reinforcing the trunk's original purpose as a bespoke item of luxury luggage. The restrained proportions and refined detailing make this a particularly versatile example, equally suited as a decorative statement piece or functional storage.
The interior is lined in the original cream-coloured fabric and opens to a spacious compartment intended for travel and storage. The original Louis Vuitton label remains present, providing further authenticity and period character. The warm tones of the interior contrast beautifully with the rich brown monogram exterior, resulting in a piece that displays exceptionally well from every angle.
Originally designed for the golden age of travel, Louis Vuitton trunks such as this accompanied their owners on grand tours and transatlantic voyages, representing the pinnacle of sophistication and innovation in luggage design. Today, they remain highly sought after for their historical significance, decorative appeal, and enduring association with luxury and refinement.
