






























































20thC ENGLISH SOLID SILVER & 9K GOLD CIGAR CASE BY CARTIER OF NEW BOND ST c.1929
A 20th century English solid silver and 9k gold cigar case by Cartier. The lid and base are decorated with raised gold inlaid bands over a finely engine-turned ground. Applied to the lid is a heraldic lion with the Latin motto “Virtus et spes”(“Virtue and hope”), also in 9k gold.
The case opens via a concealed button on the front, revealing a richly gilt interior. The underside of the lid is engraved with the name Keith and a series of dates from 1928–1929. The piece is neatly housed in its original Cartier retail case.
Hallmarked English silver (925 standard), London, year 1929 (O), Maker's mark JC (Jacques-Théodule Cartier) Cartier Ltd, Court Jewellers, New Bond Street, London W1, Jacques-Théodule Cartier was the managing director of the London branch of the company.
