In 1902, more than half a century ago, Louis Cartier gave in to the whims of a head strong lady of fashion created his first lady's handbag: black velvet with a white-gold clasp embellished with precious stones. Purveyor to Courts and Royalty, Cartier has since then, never ceased to satisfy the requirements of its discerning clients who want accessories to have the same luxury and quality as Cartier jewellery. Prestigious luggage, bags, trunks and travelling kits were made of the finest leather, tannes especially for Louis Cartier, a creative genius and a man of distinguished taste. The clasps and corner fittings were of gold or silver shidded with gold nails. The Must de Cartier "leather" collection descends from this line of tradition of luxury and quality. That has always been a priincipal factor in the creation of a Cartier product. Each skin is meticulously checked and only the finest are selected. All the care, precision and skill of craftsmen are required for the manufacturing. Leather, being a live substance, presents slight variations in the grain which are not defects but the proof of its natural value. During the tanning and dyeing processes, the skins are specially treated to make them both supple and resistant and to emphasise all its beauty. The cartier corners, buckles and locks are exclusive, patented designs. The two interlocked "C's" of the Cartier emblem discreatly bear witness to their elegance. Each article is rigorously checked and then accompanied by the authenticity card which certifies that it is part of the Cartier leather collection.
