HUMOR x Pushkin’s - Art That Gets People Talking
Pushkin’s is proud to collaborate with renowned Tunbridge Wells artist HUMOR on a new series of provocative indoor and outdoor artworks designed to catch the eye, challenge expectations and, above all, start conversations.
Known for his distinctive style, wit and subversive humour, HUMOR has created a collection that plays with familiar characters, authority, money and mischief, transforming the spaces around Pushkin’s into scenes that demand a second look.
The first works to be unveiled set the tone perfectly, creating a playful street-art narrative centred around a classic game of cops and robbers; although there may be much more to this particular heist than first meets the eye.
A dramatic break in the façade of Pushkin’s creates a striking trompe-l'œil illusion, revealing a hidden world overflowing with gold, jewels, money and antique treasures.
At the heart of the scene is Donald Duck - Fresh from the Vault. Caught counting the money and surrounded by the spoils, this instantly recognisable character appears to have done rather well for himself. In HUMOR’s hands, Donald takes on an altogether different personality, adding humour, mischief and an unexpected twist to the unfolding heist.
Close by, The Bank Robber is already making his escape. Dressed in the familiar striped shirt, black cap and gloves, with the unmistakable SWAG bag slung over his shoulder, he clambers away from the scene as though caught mid-getaway.
But amongst the riches, something else appears to have been taken - a mysterious object whose significance remains unknown.
What was the robber really searching for? Why Pushkin’s? Was this simply an opportunistic raid, or has he been sent to retrieve something very specific? And what part, if any, does Donald play in the story?
Their activities have not gone entirely unnoticed.
Further along the façade, The Peeping Policeman, a quintessential British Bobby, peers around the corner. Whistle blowing and finger pointed, he appears to have caught the thief red-handed; although, amusingly, he may still be none the wiser about the full story unfolding right under his nose.
Will he stop the robber? What exactly has been stolen? And is there more to this heist than anyone yet realises?
For now, the answers are deliberately left unresolved.
Created predominantly using spray paint and hand cut stencil techniques on plywood, the individual artworks work both as standalone pieces and as chapters within a larger evolving narrative. Their portable nature allows characters and scenes to be repositioned, expanded and added to over time, meaning the story itself can continue to change as new works are unveiled.
